WCWBA provides practicing attorneys with the unique opportunity to enrich their practices through professional skill development and networking. Our meetings allow members not only to network with other local attorneys, but also to get to know local judges outside of the courtroom.
The WCWBA has historically been focused on mentoring, educating and supporting local female attorneys. Our organization was founded by a small group of prominent local women attorneys who had a vision: to create an organization that would give voice to their concerns in the larger legal community; provide a base of support and friendship supportive of the unique challenges faced by women attorneys; and work to maintain the dignity and integrity of the profession.
Some of those same founding members went on to become judges including, Cathy Block (Associate Judge 2000-2003), Kathleen Kallan (Associate Judge 1990-2006), and Carla Alessio Policandriotes (Associate Judge 2001-2002 and Circuit Judge 2002-present). Today we have newer members who are also Associate and Circuit Court Judges. Our history is a proud one and we are committed to continue the mission of promoting professional and exceptional women attorneys in Will County.
The WCWBA helps members to improve their practices, sharpen their skills, and balance their busy personal and professional lives. At our regular monthly meetings, discussion of courthouse news and recent legal developments is augmented by regularly-scheduled speakers. There are also social networking events periodically planned throughout the year to help foster a feeling of sisterhood in the community.
WCWBA provides a wonderful opportunity for young attorneys, those who have recently changed careers or returned to the profession, experienced practitioners, and judges to share their collective knowledge and experience. Together, we support each other, improve our community, and raise the performance bar for all attorneys. You are always welcome – we look forward to seeing you at a meeting and introducing you to all that the WCWBA has to offer. |
